Yeah…

I hear you..but….

Medium for doing what they thought was best for writers”

Medium did what they thought was best for Medium.

Also, I don’t think anyone thinks Medium owes them anything. But expecting businesses to behave ethically is not wrong. Most of the poets are pretty clear they may have to pull up stakes and move on.

You aren’t being entitled by expecting an entity — that you help to promote and make money — to behave in a transparent and ethical way.

People shouldn’t remain on a hamster wheel to nowhere.

Medium has (possibly) made the calculation that poetry and fiction isn’t a priority for them and are willing to let them die.

If that’s the case that group has every right to be mad. To voice their complaints and to ultimately decide to take their ball and bat and go home.

Medium doesn’t get to be free from criticism just b/c we use their platform. They aren’t doing us anymore a favor than we are doing them. And while they may ultimately be trying to push the indies out — as long as we are part of their ecosystem we have the right and I’d argue the responsibility to complain, vent and write about our frustrations with the system/platform.
