So a few things.
- Poets and short fiction writers and probably cartoonists are getting screwed. My guess is there will be some adjustments made if Medium values that community. Maybe they don’t and they won’t. Time will tell, however.
- I get you love your poetry but why is it necessary to shit on other writers? I mean I know folk like to shit on the sex writers (boy do they) but poetry isn’t more valuable then what they do. I can’t stand the SELF crap but I recognize just b/c it’s not in my wheelhouse doesn’t mean it isn’t someone else’s. I just find denigrating other types of writing rude and unnecessary to your overall point.
- Blogging is writing. C’mon that be that guy (gal).
- I’m running a mini-experiment — I’m going to take all my Haiku’s that deal with love lust and desire (yes sex oh my!) and create an online chapbook if you will. See if I can get it up to 4 or 5 minutes. Will include an introduction and maybe a conclusion (maybe). The point is to see if a series of poems that equal the normal length of a typical Medium article will result in pay similar to a standard article. If it works then Poets have an answer on how to move forward. A combo of single poems and these online chapbooks. My guess cartoonist and flash fiction types would have to do something similar.
- There may be a solution of solutions for writes in this new MPP reality it just is going to take some thinking outside the box if Medium isn’t willing to step in and fix it.
