Election 2024

Ron DeSantis Just Killed His Presidential Dreams With Six-Week Abortion Ban

And he knows it too, which is why he’s not bragging about it.

Ron DeSantis Governor of Florida

I’m going to start this off by saying that Ron DeSantis is a media creation.

Born and raised in Florida, and current Florida resident I can tell you that the man is ill-tempered, thin-skinned and not that bright regardless of where he earned his degrees.

The media has turned him into some boogeyman to be feared and set him up for a presidential run that is likely doomed before it begins. He’s basically the Scott Walker of Florida.

The interesting thing about DeSantis is that he initially eschewed the more extremist positions of the GOP cult, but I guess because he needs those big money donors to run for president he’s become more and more extreme as election season has drawn closer and (COVID Freedumb! CRT BAD! BAN BOOKS!) that’s culminated in a six week abortion ban that he signed late at night to little fanfare and didn’t even discuss during his speech at Liberty University where such news would have been welcome with thunderous applause.

Why is that? Why not brag about your crowning achievement, particularly in front of a rabidly conservative base that would have eaten that news up?

Well, he knows it’s a non-starter on the national stage. Recent election, after recent election has shown that strict abortion bans are a non-starter with Gen-Z outside of the bible belt states.

The deep south is deep red (and yes Florida is the south), but DeSantis doesn’t just need to win those states to be president. He needs to win some combination of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan to go along with Ohio and Florida to win the election.

Good luck with convincing those citizens that his six-week abortion is something they want for their state. Which it is why it’s all the more perplexing that he signed the bill, but not at all perplexing as to why he doesn’t have much to say about it.

We will be in full blown Election 2024 season by the summer, and candidates will have to start answering for their policy choices or lack thereof as they hit the campaign trail.

If Democrats are smart (and I have no reason to beleive they are) they will target a young audience about all the freedoms a man like DeSantis is looking to take away in the “battleground” states that will decide this election.

No one made him sign the bill, that was his choice, now it’s time to hang it like an albatross around his neck.

DeSantis can’t have it both ways. If he wants to play extremist GOP bingo, then he is going to have to live with the consequences of those decisions.

And while the race stuff may have won him some “aggrieved” white votes, the abortion ban may just have cost him the election.
