I haven’t written the post yet — but the piece you’re missing is where the fans come from.

I only have my data to look at obviously but the trend remains — posts where 70%+ of the traffic is internal make much more money than those under the 70% mark even with a similar number of fans.

External sources of traffic — including from FB groups perform worse than when the traffic is coming primarily from Medium’s ecosystem. Now there are likely 2 main reasons for this but this comment is long enough as it is.
